Waste Fest at Tompkins Square Park

Dear Blogger, you hear the coolest stories about Tompkins Square Park t shirts while vending banned #tompkinssquarepark t – shirts at the 5th Annual Waste Fest at Shows in Tompkins Square Park at The Shadow. Too many innumerable cool stories to mention in New York City.

And you find yourself vending banned Tompkins Square Park t – shirts for when someone doesn’t like the logo on your Tompkins Square Park t – shirt.

And the description for that Urban Waste Facebook event invite reads like:

Wasteland Productions and Waste Management Presents Our 5th Annual WASTEXFEST featuring Blackout Shoppers, Complete Fucker, Angry Corpses NJHC, YDI, Urban Waste, and this year’s headliner FANG. Food will once again be made by Lady Waste Rachel Jean-Abriss Gitten, with donations going to Sweetbriar Nature Center. This will be a fun year at Tompkins Square Park.

And then I found myself listening to Fang Official‘s live at Tompkins Square Park in New York City at Waste Fest 5 cover song of The Jim Carroll Band “People Who Died” video, whose lyrics still seem to be stuck in my head, while vending.

And this Waste Fest 5 concert happend to be on the same day as that Punk Island 2025 concert at Randall’s Island Park in New York City.

And if I am correct, you can still find Andreas Troeger‘s OUR F#CKING PARK: Rebellion, Noise, and Punk Rock in Tompkins Square Park book on one of Chris’s merchandise tables at these Shows in Tompkins Square Park concerts. It is a book of beautiful raw portraits of the artists keeping the music alive—real faces, real noise, shot between 2019 and 2024 in Tompkins Square Park.

And Lower East Side Food Not Bombs was there serving the coolest food for free also. Their Instagram page says they are serving free vegan meals every Sunday at 4:30pm inside the SW corner of Tompkins Square Park (E 7th st & Ave A) DM us if you’d like to get involved!

And if I heard correctly, Chris said on the mic after the concert ended that the Annual Tompkins Square Park Riot Reunion Concert is August something.

To all the people who died, the lyrics from the song “People Who Died” by the Jim Carroll Band is about the lives and deaths of people in the East Village, specifically around Tompkins Square Park.

And the world still seems to be going to hell in a hand basket as I read about those Los Angeles riots that seem to be the only thing in the headline news amongst other headlines from hell here on planet earth on this day.

The only thing constant is change and some stories do not end as you expect.

Have a great Tompkins Square Park concert day and more. And what, if anything, does this have to do with a No Police State. Peace on earth and goodwill to all mankind.

East Village Zine Fair 2023

zinefair3

zinefair

The 8 Ball CommunityPrinted Matter St Marks, East Village Zine Fair happened indoors at PS 122 Community Center this past weekend after being postponed from a rain date outdoors on St Marks Place in that city of New York in that neighborhood of the Lower East Side, now called the East Village for real estate marketing purposes maybe.

And I had a great time vending #blacklivesmatter #nopolicestate #occupywallstreet #sh*tjustgotreal #washingtonsquarepark #unionsquarepark #morus #theshadow #yoga #music #brooklyn #eastvillage #lowereastside & #iloveny necklaces, magnets, key chains & pins $2 each & Tompkins Square Park t shirts for $10 each outside on the sidewalk next to Chris Flash of Shows in Tompkins Square Park, The Shadow Newspaper and indoors with Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space – MORUS at East Village Zine Fair at 8Ball Community Printed Matter Zine Fair/ St. Marks this past weekend.

And with over 70 exhibitors at this zine fair, if I were to copy and paste part of Printed Matter’s website description of this event, (because hey, it’s less writing sometimes….) it would read something like:

Printed Matter / St Marks and 8-Ball Community are excited to welcome you to the third annual East Village Zine Fair, a celebration of NYC’s zine-makers, independent publishers, and the East Village’s history of DIY culture past and present.

Though originally planned for June 24, due to rainy weather the EVZF will now take place Saturday, July 8th AND Sunday, July 9th at Performance Space New York, 150 First Ave.

Saturday, July 8th 11AM – 7PM (11AM – 1PM are mask mandatory hours, register here*)

Sunday, July 9th 11AM – 5PM
For our new venue, we cannot imagine a better alternative than Performance Space New York, a fellow arts non-profit in the heart of the East Village. We are so grateful for their support and generosity in hosting the EVZF this year 📚🎱

*Saturday will begin with two mask-mandatory hours and a reduced visitor capacity to ensure that those who are immunocompromised and/or disabled have a chance to browse the Fair. To ensure entry during this time, register via the link above or through tinyurl.com/EVZFMASK
For the rest of the Fair masks will be available and highly encouraged.

We’re so excited to welcome everyone to the fair, and since we are not outside on St Marks Pl this year, we Are working with a much more limited visitor capacity. As such, we encourage you to arrive early and be prepared for potential wait times to enter the fair. Once inside, we are asking that guests try to keep their visit limited to 2 hours so that as many people as possible get to experience the EVZF.

Questions? Email evzf@printedmatter.org

The EVZF and its programs are free and open to the public. Details about fundraising editions, musical performance and more are forthcoming!Stay up to date via Instagram Printed Matter8-Ball Community) and by subscribing to Printed Matter’s mailing list “

We are still living in crazy times. Have a great New York City festival day and more.

There was a hardcore concert at Tompkins Square Park this past weekend, which I thought was actually a punk rock concert or a heavy metal concert or both. And I know that there was a Black N’ Blue Productions hardcore concert at Tompkins Square Park this past weekend because this Facebook event invite says so, and all of these news articles that have since appeared as a result of that concert say so also. And it was a really big concert, so big that the crowd of concert goers , some wearing masks and some not wearing masks has since become a big to free your face or not to free your face debate.

And in between attempting to vend those Black Lives Matter I Can’t Breathe, Not My President, S#!t Just Got Real, Occupy Wall Street, No Police State, Tompkins Square ParkUnion Square ParkWashington Square ParkMuseum of Reclaimed Urban SpaceThe ShadowFrida Kahlo, Yoga, Brooklyn and I Love New York necklaces, magnets, key chains and pins and Black Lives Matter hats and tote bags at this concert, it was seen that there were many other vendors at this concert, which almost seemed like a festival also.

Someone was handing out Defund The NYPD flyers on Avenue A in front of the park, the Hare Krishnas and Chilis on Wheels were serving food, East River Park Action. band merchandise tables and The Shadow had tables there also and there was even a yard sale going on during this really big concert.

And surely that was Clayton Patterson who was at this concert who finds himself in one of those photos posted above. And thanks @angieisallright for helping me to vend that Black Lives Matter jewelry at that table and chair from morus for one quick second.

And with future Shows in Tompkins Square Park possibly in jeopardy as a result of this really big concert, the concert schedule reads as follows:

“HEY KIDS! Put these TSP show dates for 2021 on your calendar:

 > April 24: BLACK + BLUE PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS: MAD BALL – Murphy’s Law – Bloodclot – The Capturers. Donations will be accepted with a portion of the proceeds to go to New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation
 > May 8: A7 BACK TO THE NYHC ROOTS Record Release show: Antidote NYHC – Kings Never Die – The Last Stand – Crazy Eddie – The Car Bomb Parade – Reaching Out
 > May 22: WASTE FEST 2: Brought to you by the fine folks of Urban Waste
> June 13: Sewage, Hammerbrain, Sea Monster and The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black, with surprise guests!
> June 26: F-Bomb: Brought to you by Mike SOS
> July 10: F-Bomb: Brought to you by Mike SOS
> August 7 + 8: TSP RIOT REUNION > September 11: F-bomb: Brought to you by Mike SOS
> September 25: Something special brought to you by Black + Blue Productions
 > October 9: F-Bomb: Brought to you by Mike SOS
> October 30: TSP HALLOWEEN show

And, as seen on Reddit:

Finally a solution.

Apparently punk rock stops the spread of Covid.

No masked needed while rocking out.

Everyone looks happy. That is nice

And as I type this blog post a few days later, there are now articles that read, Permits pulled for upcoming Tompkins Square Park shows following Madball show

We are living in crazy times. And what, if anything, does this have to do with a No Police State. Have a great punk rock hardcore concert day and more. #blacklivesmatter

20200926_214358

And in the midst of all of those Black Lives Matter protests going on, and that scary virus that came from out of nowhere earlier this year to where it now seems like that mayan calendar date wants to read 12.21.2021 instead of 12.21.2012 or something, there was another one of those The Shadow Tompkins Square Park concerts that took place at Tompkins Square Park this past weekend, after that scary virus that came from out of nowhere appeared. And it was another concert that I found myself attempting to vend that Black Lives Matter jewelry at and displaying those your thoughts on black lives matter banners at, along with other arts and crafts vendors at this event. And Chris Flash’s The Shadow Presents: Autumn in Tompkins Square Park Facebook event invite read as follows:

Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM

It’s that lovely time of year when neighbors get together to celebrate the cultural vitality of their community in our beloved Tompkins Square Park.

in addition to speakers, information tables with local crafts, we will have the following musical talents:

 > The Acute — 2:00> Evil Kim Evil — 2:30
> Acorn Slim (with Dead Dean) — 3:00
> Jennifer Blowdryer Soul Experience (with Robert Aaron + Nikki Fuse) — 3:30
> SEWAGE (with Spike Polite) — 4:00
> Skitzopolis — 4:30
> Soul Cake — 5:00
> Rebelmatic (with surprise guest CV) — 5:30
> The Love Pirates — 6:00
> Grace The Enemy — 6:30
> Ruckus Interruptus — 7:00

AND: Seth Tobocman (WW# Illustrated) will do a slide show with Eric Blitz and John Wagner.

Brought to you by: The SHADOW, John Gabriel, Eddie Mack, the undying spirit of Uncle Don Yippie and….THOSE F*CKING ANARCHISTS!!

And Chilis on Wheels were serving some really good vegan food as they seem to do on Saturday’s in this park and extinction rebellion youth had an XR Youth NYC Guerrilla Flea Market on this day also. Climate change is real. And after the Parks Department showed up to shut down that concert a few minutes early, or on the dot, or near the very end, I guess, as in that blurry photo that finds itself posted above,  Seth’s slideshow started, in the dark, in what seemed like a few hours after the concert had ended. And it was an Occupy Wall Street mic check kind of a slide show without a mic. And if my ears heard correctly, he introduced Michelle Shocked who played a few songs into the night, as in that other blurry and dark photo that finds itself posted above.  And what else is there that can I say about this concert that has not already been said in all of the photos that have already been posted in social media land, except to say that between the bands, the merchandise tables, the vendors, the dancing, the music, music  and more music, it seemed to be a great day for another outdoor show and concert in the park. Have a great Tompkins Square Park concert day and more.
