Riseup

I’ve been receiving those New York City area protest calendar announcements in my email inbox from Todd Eaton every week or so for quite a while now. And I can not even remember how I even wound up subscribing to the list in the first place. And somehow I am a subscriber to this New York protest list that seems to be all protest all the time. I imagine if one wanted to be a 24 hour 365 day a year protester and attender of rallies, demonstrations and political events to help save the world, this list would be the list to consult, as it seems as if it has every single political cause, protest, event and party listed in the New York City area. And so I found this weeks calendar interesting to repost. And those links below are clickable in his emails, though I could not get them to be clickable in that sample protest calendar below. Film Noir

Now that’s interesting. There is an article on the cover of this weeks Village Voice with an image of a gun titled “The Year In Bloody Good Film: Violence Is Golden”. The Village Voice and the LA Weekly did a year in film critics’ poll, and something like the top 10 notable films were all violent or something. What does that say about these days and times when the top ten films in a critics poll are all violent. And somewhere in that article they actually mentioned the phrase “Film Noir”. And I wasn’t exactly sure what the word film noir even meant until I Wikipediaed it up. And that Internet bible dictionary Wikipedia described the phrase “film noir” as a cinematic term used primarily to describe stylish Hollywood crime dramas, particularly those that emphasize moral ambiguity and sexual motivation. Hollywood’s classic film noir period is generally regarded as stretching from the early 1940s to the late 1950s and emerged in the United States during the Depression. The term film noir is French for “black film”. Well, I am not exactly sure what this all means, but I guess the term means to glorify and romanticize violence. And I do find it amazing that any publication with advertising would even mention that phrase in an article these days, that film noir glorifies violence, being that guns and the images of guns are advertised everywhere in film, television, newspapers, telescreens, music lyrics, video games, cartoons, posters, commercials, sides of buses, insides of buses, the floors and walls of every single form of transportation possible, light poles, bus stops, sidewalks, doorsteps, walls, floors, ceilings, t-shirts, clothing, the air and anywhere else on planet earth that looks marketable. It is bombarding the advertising of guns to look cool these days. For what reason could not actors and models or any other person hold an object other than a gun or a weapon to look cool. Could not everyone start posing with flowers, or sticks and stones or something to look cool in these media advertisements these days. And what about public broadcasting non commercial sponsored media. Is public, listener sponsored media an alternative to corporate sponsored media and violent content. And what is corporate sponsored media. And what about technology and violence. Are they related. And what is technology and its advancement. And then there is that fourth amendment of the the right to bear arms constitution, the right to take another life for a piece of property, a shelter over ones head that should be free, a basic necessity of life of mankind, material goods. And the whole world is paying as someone loses their life to gun violence every day as the story is told today and the headlines will read tomorrow, yesterday and thereafter with no end in sight. If only a constitution could be written to abolish guns and the images of guns from everywhere and everyone on the face of planet earth. And in any given publication of most newspapers, half of the film advertisements have images of guns in them. In any given news cast, half of the news program, programming is of crime and violence. On any given prime time television schedule, half of the television programs are of crime, violence and guns. And again, I could copy my blog posts over and over in my appeal to end gun violence. To banish guns and the images of guns from every single place and human being on the face of planet earth. Guns are the worst invention of an industry ever. It is bombarding, the advertising of people holding guns to look cool, and pointing guns at you, the viewer, as you look at the poster or printed advertising. Does not advertising and programing influence and program society and people? Does not glorifying violence influence the world. And what are those TiVo things. Do they help one to filter out offensive programming in the media. It is that vicious cycle that feeds on itself again, advertising feeds marketing, which feeds crime, which feeds the news which feeds more crime which feeds more violence which feeds more advertising which feeds more news cycle. And it is interesting to read what the origin of film noir means, that this whole film noir thing started during the depression, right along with the Satan, Santa Claus marketing of the Christmas holiday shop, buy, spend more money, go into more debt, over consumerism season. Does this glorifying of violence as if it is romantic, reflect the moral decline of the world, the collapse of society? Are wars debasing the value of human life. Is there hope for the world. Will this beast, whatever or whoever this beast this may be ever release its grip on mankind. It seems as if the Emperor is wearing no clothes in the world these days, whatever the moral of that story may mean. What was life like before the invention of guns? I am only one blogger, one voice. No one is free while others are oppressed. Is another world possible? Peace on earth and goodwill to all mankind. And what does this have to do with a No Police State?

This Blog

And as I was just blah blogging about in that previous post, there must be a zillion other blogs out there in the bloggerworld blogosphere, so many that I wonder if it is possible to even read them all. And the titles and topics of some of these other blogs which range from about everything to everything in the alphabet, seem to be all over the place. And some of these blogs in the bloggerworld seem to be more or less interesting than others. And then there are those political blogs. There is this interesting blog, formykountry, that talks about interesting topics, and some of the posts are thought provoking. ForMyKountry.com seems to be a political patriotic blog, as the title says “The Patriot’s Den at ForMyKountry.com” so I gather this blog may be for my country, assuming that is the country of America. And then there are images of American flags, stars and stripes, and presidents of America on this blog, and quotes from former Presidents of America. ForMyKountry is a conservative themed, opinionated blog and I try to figure out if it is going to the left, right, sideways, straight, up or down. And the topics are interesting and some are even jokes. There are the topics about gun control, sports, facts and trivia and many other topics. And then there is that posting: “After talking to a liberal give them 2 asperins and tell to go to bed”. That’s interesting.

Mardi Gras

And today on this day I find myself wondering what topic to blah blog about in my internetaholic blogging in the blogosphere bloggerworld. And as usual I find myself wondering these days, how do all of those zillions of other bloggers in the bloggerworld find topics to write about on a daily basis or as often as one blogs. That how does one find content for ones website thing. And what’s the purpose of blogging again? TO rant and ramble away, to log ones diary or share ones thoughts or something. Well this web 2.0 user social media generated content thing still amazes me even to this day. And so the random thought for the day that comes to mind for this blog is that purple Mardi Gras cup I happen to be looking at at the moment. What can I say and write about Mardi Gras? Didn’t the party week just pass with the New Years and isn’t Mardi Gras approaching next month in February or something. More parties? And what does the word Mardi Gras mean anyway. The words sounds French maybe, like Gras grand, more of something. I wonder what that Internet bible dictionary Wikipedia would have to say about this word and holiday. And so this purple cup has written all over it, “Happy Mardi Gras” with images and drawings of clowns, pianos, music symbols, floats, confetti, revelers at a parade grand procession, that tragedy and comedy mask, horns, decks of cards, those Mardi Gras coins, the future dates of Mardi Gras all the way up until 2010 and just one big party scene. I guess these are some of the images of the Mardi Gras. And those Mardi Gras Marching bands from Louisiana rock.

Alternatives Beyond Psychiatry

And so I saw my friend Laura the other day, over these end of the year, New Years Day holidays. And her being as anti Big Pharma, American Psychiatric Association, American Medical Association, National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI), Friends and Alliances of the Mentally Ill (FAMI) parents who lock up their kids in wards, mental death system and everything else psych cia trick oppression in between, as am I also, she had this book with her that she wrote a chapter for. And Laura has been one of those “Abolish forced psychiatric treatment, Psychiatry Kills” advocates for as long as I can remember. And the book is called Alternatives Beyond Psychiatry edited by Peter Stastny, Peter Lehmann, with a preface by Robert Whiteker. I haven’t exactly read this book yet but I am sure it addresses the atrocities of the mental death system which includes eugenics inspired psychiatric killing centers in Nazi Germany which is how the holocaust began, and that this book advocates humane alternatives to the mental health system, psychiatric drugs, electroshock and locked wards. And the cover of the book is interesting, there must be photos of about sixty or so authors who again I assume speak for alternative for psychiatry. And among them is David Oaks, founder of Support Coalition International, an organization that addresses alternatives to psychiatry for as as long as I can remember. And in this book there are chapters by Laura Ziegler, Jim Gottstein, Kate Millett, Marius Romme and Sandra Escher, Gisela Sartori, Rufus May, Jan Wallcraft, Philip Thomas and Salma Yasmeen, Bruce Levine and many others. And there is another book advertised on the last page, “Coming Off Psychiatric Drugs: Successful Withdrawal from Neuroleptics, Antidepressants, Lithium, Carbamazepine and Tranquilizers”, edited by Peter Lehmann, Prefaces by Judi Chamberlin, Pirkko Lahti and Loren R. Mosher. And I would think that this book would have a message to share for alternative to the mental death system. Whether these books will change the world, I am not sure. Is another world possible. And what does this have to do with a No Police State? Peace on earth and goodwill to all mankind.

The End Of The Year

It must be that end of the year time again according to the Gregorian calendar. And I also figure it must be near New Years Day 2008, as every time I turn on the television, listen to the radio or look at a newspaper, I see and hear all of those year end, year in review, best of 2007 articles and programing, and that Auld Lang Syne song gets played a thousand times. And I also see people selling those Happy New Year 2008 glasses, horns and confetti on street corners and sidewalks everywhere. And this time of year must also be the most partying day and night time of the year, and the most expensive time of the year to party in New York City also, as those clubland parties admission fees are usually in the hundreds and zillions of dollars range to party or something like that. Well I guess if one is in the New York City area, one could always go to see the ball drop in Time Square, that’s free as far as I know. Me myself, I don’t know what I will do for the New Years Eve celebrations this year, if anything. And I also thought it was the beginning of the end of the world this year in 2007 with all of those prophecy, armageddon, apocalyptic religious fanaticism thoughts about Nostradamus, World War III, the beast and the Anti Christ I posted this year about 2007 being the beginning of the end of the world. So unless some big momentous end of the world events happens in the next two days, happy 2008.

The Great American Death Ceremony

Now this passage is kind of funny, sort of. Or maybe it’s not because it is about health and it is real. Well at least it makes a great statement about health and alternative medicine. This is one of those sayings that I saw on a friends refrigerator held on with a magnet the other day and I thought to repost it because hey, it’s less writing sometimes:

The Great American Death Ceremony

The death ceremony began as a crude ritual back in the days of witchcraft. In recent years, it has developed into a science. It usually takes 10 to 15 years however, modern scientific advancements are shortening this period of time.

It starts with one simple headache. When the one aspirin will no longer cover up the headache, take two. After a few months, when two aspirin will no longer cover up the headache, you take one of the stronger compounds. By this time it becomes necessary to take something for the ulcers which have been caused by the aspirin. Now that you are taking two medicines, you have a good start. After a few months these medications will disrupt your liver function. If a good infection develops you can take come penicillin. Of course the penicillin will damage your red blood corpuscles and spleen so that you develop anemia. By this time all of these medication will put such a strain on your kidneys they should break down. It is now time to take some antibiotics. When these destroy your natural resistance to disease, you can expect a general flair up in all your systems. The next step is to cover up all of these symptoms with sulfa drugs. When the kidney finally plug up you can have them drained. Some poisons will build up in your system but you an keep going quite a while this way.

By now the medications will be so confused they won’t know what they are supposed to be doing, but it doesn’t really matter. If you have followed every step as directed you can now make an appointment with your undertaker.

This game is played by practically all Americans except for a few ignorant souls who follow nature.
