Honoring The Fallen?

And Memorial Day is almost near in a couple of days or so according to that Gregorian calendar and all of those street festivals that are to be found everywhere in the streets today. And I thought to blah blog about this patriotic flag waving holiday. And this also leads me to realize that I have been blahging on this blog for over a year now and that these holidays seem to be a recurring event and same day, different year when that same ole Gregorian calendar date roles around. And then I thought, hey, I can just post the same blog entry from a year ago that I posted on this blog a year ago because it almost seems like it’s the same day, different year. And besides, it;s less writing sometimes. So the following is a passage that I posted on this blog a year ago:

And today is Memorial Day in America. A celebration of the war day. Another one of those patriotic holidays. The flag wavers are out and yellow ribbons, badges of honor, medals, parades, marches, prayers, patriotic songs, tributes and ceremonies are being broadcast everywhere. The headlines read “Honor the dead soldiers, honor the fallen soldiers and comrades”. Today is the ultimate patriotic fanatic holiday. My question of the day; for what reason is it an honor to volunteer to be fodder for the canon. For what reason is it an honor to die for nothing, to fight for reasons that do not exist, to fight against the flesh for powers that be that one cannot even see. For what reason is it an honor to be so poor that one will volunteer their life in exchange for money after one leaves the service, if one leaves the service. For what reason is it an honor for persons to be brainwashed with propaganda, theirs or mine. For what reason is it an honor to become a violent person and pick up a gun and kill another person for no reason at all. For what reason is it an honor to be a veteran who now make up the majority of the homeless population. For what reason is it an honor to attend one of those military sponsored funerals and cry over the image of a flag that propagates violence, the same flag that caused ones death. For what reason is it an honor to fall and die for nothing. For what reason is it an honor to promote this ideology. What is heroic about all of this? And why does the word “Patriot” have the word “Riot” in it? And why does the word “Military” militant militia have the word “Mal” in it? “Parens Patriarch, Father of our country”, that phrase seems to be the basis of endless deaths of the world. I saw Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11 documentary. It is nineteen eighty four and Orwellianism is everywhere at its best today. Is it written somewhere that this must all come to pass? Happy beach bar b queing Memorial day. Peace on earth. And what does this have to do with a No Police State?

Dress Me Up

A Halloween costume. Well I know it is not exactly that Halloween time of year at this hour, but if you are located in that East Village neighborhood location of New York City as I am, everyday can seem as if it is Halloween when one sees the costumes and outfits that people are walking around on the streets all dressed up in. And if you happen to be looking for Halloween Costumes, you can find them at In.Costume.com. They have lots of costumes for adults, teens and kids. And their website is fun to look at with photos of people dressed up as Renaissance characters, princesses, gypsies and other costumes of various sorts. InCostume.com has wigs, hats, masks, accessories, makeup, decorations and even pet costumes. You can be your favorite character at their website, as they are all costumes all the time.

These Days

According to that Gregorian calendar, Earth Day and May Day are nearing again this time of year. And what can I say about these days and times except help save planet mother earth. And I thought to repost that Greenpeace polar bear video and even an excerpt from last years Earth Day posting that I blah blogged about because I am starting to realize as a blogaholic that these days, times and years sometimes repeat themselves:
The earth is on fire. Planet mother earth is dying. It is being pillaged and plundered. Antarctica is disappearing. The polar bears are floating away on ice. The bees are dying, the bats are disappearing, the frogs are disappearing, wheat is disappearing, the price of oil is going up along with the economy going down or up, the population is population, Global warming, the greenhouse effect, Babylon on fire, overpollution, overpopulation, overoilism, overconsumerism, overcapitalism, overeverything. Here is a Hopi Indian Prophecy: There will come a time when the Earth grows sick and when it does a tribe will gather from all the cultures of the world who believe in deed and not words. They will work to heal it…they will be known as the “Warriors of the Rainbow”. Go Green, it’s the newest thing. Let us shine together to make our earth more beautiful.
And in other thoughts May Day is nearing also. And what is May Day, isn’t’ that that workers of the world unite holiday. And from what I can remember, there are usually a lot of events held throughout the world to coincide with these days. And here are some of them that I thought to repost:
Information is strength, knowledge is power. Workers of the world unite.
Blackkat will have its annual Blackkat Mayday party. Blackkat organized the first annual Squatter Mayday parties fifteen years ago at Tompkins Square Park. These days squatters have been thrown out and bought out and squatting no longer exists on the Lower East Side which is now called the East Village for real estate marketing purposes maybe, so the most recent mayday parties are of the rave scene.
The 10th Annual Blackkat Mayday 2008. Sunday April 27th, Tompkins Square Park. Free.
Featuring : Grandmaster Caz,Lenny Dee and more. With the Blackkat crew : Jason Bk,Arrow Chrome,The Eye, Dennis the Menance. The Hungry March Band and special guests. With live silkscreening and artwork by Peripheral Media Projects.
We invite any and all local and global activist groups to bring a table, flyers, sign up sheets, and banners to set up a booth at the event—please contact us if interested.
And then there is an Earth Day New York whose title seems as if it should have something to do with Earth Day. And there is also the Global Marijuana March as well. And then there is an email titled ” Longshoremen to close ports on West Coast May 1st to protest”. And I imagine there are many, many, many more of these protests and events to be found on this day, though I am not exactly sure where they are. Here’s wishing you a Happy Earth And May Day. Peace on earth and goodwill to all mankind.

Good Friday

Hey bloggers, gee, I took a look at the date of the last posting I did on this blog and it looks like it was a few days ago. And I try to attempt to blah blog away as much as I can in my blogaholicness, and then there is real life versus the virtual world. And then there is also that other blog I attempted to start last week, yet another one of those No Police State Girl blogs. And I wonder if maybe I should try and think up a different name for those blogs already. And it seems as if it is that page rank thing that sent me there to looking for another blog anyway. And when it seems as if the world is falling down around me, I still find myself blah blogging away. And yesterday in the world on that day, the Gregorian calendar, and the advertisements say this day yesterday, was Good Friday, or maybe God’s Friday. I am not exactly sure what Good Friday is all about, maybe Wikipedia has an answer for that, but I gather it is some sort of religious holiday having to do with God and and fasting that leads up to Easter. And it is holy week this week, where praise to God and Jesus and his crucifixion could be given, whoever God may be. And what the heck does Easter have to do with eggs and bunnies anyway. Is that a spring, multiply, reproduce and be fruitful thing. And then there is Passover, isn’t that another religious holiday a month away for God. I should watch that Ten Commandments movie again, it is really educational to watch when one is too lazy to read the bible. Have a great holy week.

Holy Daze

Easter must be getting nearer, and I would forget sometimes if it weren’t for the newspapers and advertisements telling me so. For this weeks newspapers are full of ads reading “Join us during Holy Week”, “Holy Week and Easter 2008”, and the schedules for the Church Palm Sunday, Blessing of Palms and the Holy Eucharist and watch through the night, Good Friday, liturgy of the passion, Holy Saturday, in celebration of our lord’s resurrection and children’s Easter egg hunt, Saturday anticipated mass, Sunday masses, morning prayer, closing of adoration, stations of the cross, solemn Easter vigil, Good Friday Blues, Peace Now Concert, Easter Day: the day of resurrection, procession with strings, brass, piano, organ, full bands, handbells, children’s choir and the list of church events goes on and on. And this Holy Week thing is making me wonder, are churches the most segregated congregated places on planet earth? I just realized that every time I want to go to church, I have to find a church mass, communion and religious worship service for my “Demonination” my nationality. For what reason can’t all churches welcome everyone regardless of your race, color or creed. The one place where one goes to find God and be free is not free, it’s segregated by nationality and denominations. It’s either all Christian, all Protestant, all Jewish, all Episcopalian, all Catholic, all Muslim, all Buddhist or all something else. This Tower of Babel confusion of the languages, cultures and nations thing has got me confused. And what if I want to go to church with someone who is not my nationality? We’d have to look around really hard to find a church that would accept both of our nationalities. I do believe there are some free, liberal, multicultural and diverse churches who welcome everyone such as Interfaith, Unitarian and Universalist churches who approach faith, religion and spirituality in a non traditional, creedless and non dogmatic way and have no creedal requirements imposed on their members. Times Square Church in Manhattan is an example of this. But for the most part, churches have always remained segregated. I am losing faith in the churches for this reason, they seem Saint Hypocritical and Saint Elitist in their God loves you for who you are speeches. Where can I go to find God and not be judged by the color of my skin? Should I just become an Atheist? Peace on earth and goodwill to all mankind. Happy Easter.

Leaping Years

It’s a Sunday today in the world and I find myself blah blogging away again on this day of rest, or it that Saturday, Sabado, the Sabbath, I can never figure it out. And this month is a leap year according to that Gregorian calendar. One of those years that I guess, leaps. And what the heck is a leap year anyway. I find that day and month of February 29, or is it the 28th very confusing. What does that leap year thing mean, that years leap, years fly away. As I understand a leap year occurs every four years. But what about those other three. And what about people who were born on the leap year day, or they four years less or more than they really are, and what day do they celebrate their birthday on, the 28th or the 29th. And what about the rest of the world, does it advance four years in time? What’s the meaning of this holiday, is it an astrological, astronomical event where the stars in heaven should rearrange themselves and align themselves with the sun or something. I imagine Wikipedia, that internet bible dictionary would have an answer for this one. And whatever it’s meaning, have a great leaping year day.

Love

Today is Valentines day according to that Gregorian Calendar and advertising here in America. And the color red and images of hearts in all shapes and sizes are everywhere today. And there are balloons and dinners everywhere and flowers bought and sold enough ready for burial. And I am not exactly sure what to say about Valentines Day except that it is another one of those holidays in America that seems as if it is supposed to be observed in some sort of way. And so I find myself reposting the following passage that I posted about love several months ago. And who or what is a Valentine anyway. Does Wikipedia have an answer for that? Happy Day of Valentines.

Someone sent an interesting email to my MySpace page inbox yesterday. And the email had the words “love love love, love is the greatest therapy”. Interesting. Now that makes me think about the word love. What is it abut that word. There has been ton of things said about it throughout the beginning of time and there are another ton of quotes, sayings, phrases, poems, stories, scriptures, verses and philosophies that have been said about it since the beginning of time. Love is what makes the world go round. Without love, life can be meaningless, maybe. And many a lyrics have been sung to many a love song, and the song titles about love are endless. And many books and romance novels have been written on the topic, and they are endless. And why is the word love, evol spelled backwards? Is there some secret hidden meaning there? Is there a definition for this word. What is its meaning and how can it be summed up into one sentence, if at all? What do the horoscopes have to say about it. And regarding relationships, that’s a whole another blog posting. Loves covers all things and above all things are love. And what about divine and brotherly love. Here is an interesting verse about love, or is it charity, in the bible. Peace and love.

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. 1 Corinthians 13.

Ashes To Ashes

“Ashes to ashes, and dust to dust. Where the good die young, it’s all die must..”. Isn’t that a verse in that “Beat Street” film song I heard before? And it’s wacky weather again today. Tornadoes in some states and summertime in New York in the beginning of February. Is this that global warming climate change we should all go green 2012 thing. Anyway, hey bloggers, for what reason is every other person walking around town today with black crosses and smears on their foreheads. Is today Halloween for a certain group of people? And then I passed by a church, and there he was. A Priest standing on the church steps with a bowl of some black stuff, painging passerbys foreheads with more of those x’s and crosses, yelling “ashes”. And there was a sign nearby that read “Ash Wednesday Service 7:00pm”. Oh, it’s Ash Wednesday according to that Gregorian Calendar. And what does that mean. A day of ashes on a Wednesday. And ashes for what. Well I think it is some sort of religions holiday and that this is another one of those Wikipedia consultations for me. And whatever this day may mean, happy Ash Wednesday.

A Chinese New Year

Okay, I think it must be Chinese New Year coming up again sometime soon because I read it somewhere that said so. I have always thought Eastern medicine, philosophy, religion and just eastern everything was way cool, and Chinese astrology even way cooler. And what is that Chinese zodiac thing about anyway, those twelve animals that mean something about ones personality and the order of the universe or something. It’s that yin yang thing maybe. And those Chinatown parades are always awesome with those red and gold colors everywhere. Chinatown rocks, and those Chinese fortune cookies are way cool also, as they never seem to say anything bad. And what year of the Chinese New Year animal is it anyway. Is it the year of the rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, cock, dog, boar, tiger, ox or rat? Wikipedia probably has an answer for that, that website seems to have an answer for everything, at least the definition of words. And those Chinese Zodiac place mats that one gets in Chinese restaurants every so often are way cool also with those pictures and drawings of those animals. And oh, there happens to be a definition of the Chinese zodiac on this place mat. The Chinese Zodiac consists of a 12 year cycle, each year of which is names after a different animal that imparts distinct characteristics to its year. Many Chinese believe that the year of a persons birth is the primary factor in determining that person’s personality traits, physical and mental attributes and degree of success and happiness throughout his lifetime. To learn about your animal sign, and the year of your birth among the twelve signs running around the border. If born before 1936, add 12 to the year you were born to find your year. And whatever this Chinese Year zodiac sign may be, happy Chinese New Year.
