Time Out New York Style

And on this day finds itself another one of those Sundays that has rolled around. That day of rest, the Sabbath. Or is that Saturday. And yet I find myself blah blogging away in my blogaholicness for some reason or another. And Time Out New York, that really cool all New York all the time magazine, has a really cool issue titled Most Stylish New Yorkers in their last weeks edition. I know, because that copy of it I came across says so. And it seems to be a stylish and coloforul tabloid like fashion plate of people around town dressed up in fashion statements indeed. So much, that I thought to blah blog about it on this blog. And in particular somewhere on page twelve through page twenty six or something, there they are, or at least most of them are according to Time Out New York. The stylish New Yorkers of Eleanor Friedberger, the musician in the Fiery Furnaces, Rio, financial analyst, Starrett Zenko, marketing director for Jonathan Adler, Victor Vazquez, musician in Das Racist, Elizabeth Spiridakis, style blogger, Ill Will, actor, artist, promoter and member of the Retro Kidz, Miss Frankie Rose, musician, Kid Cudi, musician, actor, vampire, Jeralyn Gerba, Daily Candy editor, Cale Parks, musician, Zewiditu Jewel, blogger, student and store owner, Michael Macko, fashion consultant, Chuck Guarino, proprietor and designer for TheCast, Cheryl, disco shamans, Christian Joy, costumer-fashion designer, Coco, makeup artist, Heidi Rosenau, head of PR for a museum, Shien Lee, founder-event producer for Dances of Vice, Josh Peskowitz, freelance editor, writer, stylist and consultant, Jared Joseph, actor in Dreamgirls, Golden Triangle, Brooklyn Band, Frank Tell, fashion designer, Robert James, owner, designer and creative director of By Robert James, Mary “MZ.Skittles” Seats, rapper-singer, student, fashion guru and stylist, Ryan Turner, menswear designer, Ouigi! “The Bearded Man” Theodore, DJ Cassidy, DJ and producer, Rajni Lucienne Jacques, fashion features editor at Nylon, Justin Reese, Topman sales adviser, Kelly Framel, stylist, jewelry designer and fashion blogger, Leah Taylor, managing editor of Flavorpill New York, Ruben Sanz Ramiro, sommelier,Jessica Delfino, twisted minstrel and subversive artsy lady, Louise Ingalls Sturges, photographer, painter, blogger and vintage vendor, Cats Mcdaid-Kelly, M.F.A. student at Parsons, Timo Weiland and Alan Eckstein, fashion designers for Timo Weiland and a host of about fifteen or so other most stylish New Yorkers dressed up or down stylish. And sometimes that city of New York seems as if it can be all about fashion, style, trends and more style, fashion and trends. Have a great fashion Sunday day.

Musical Fashion

And I am not sure what to call the title of this post as I blah blog away on this day, though I do know it has something to do with music and fashion that I would like to blah blog about in this post. And so what’s up with that Mary Poppins look that is on the streets these days when it comes to fashion with all of the clothing being either pleated, puffed, or Mary Poppined up in some sort of way. And those half sleeves that everyone is wearing everywhere on the streets that is to be found in clothing stores everywhere these days, I still can not comprehend as a fashion statement. And every era has its fashion trends I guess. And so that photo above with that trippy looking red color was taken by Sugarcane of East Village Pharmacy, and his cool amazingly high tech camera phone, is of Welf, Kevin, Joe, Kevin, Mike and Chris of Funk Monk, or Monk Funk as I have seen it listed on the Lucky Cat’s website, with their horns and drums performing at The Lucky Cat as part of their Brooklyn Experiments series. And that Lucky Cat restaurant, bar and lounge is doing the go green it’s the new thing thing, as they have vegetarian and vegan food and their delivery containers are made of biodegradable and or compostable materials. And their paper that covered that straw that came with that drink was an eco product made from corn and 100% compostable. And they are helping to save planet mother earth I guess. And they are located on that trendie indie rock scene street of Grand with all of its bars and clubs, in that trendy indie hipster rock scene neighborhood of Williamsburg, Brooklyn in that City of New York. And their venue rocks. And every decade of New York seems to have it’s era, at least when it comes to real estate. Have a great music and fashion day.

Fashion Weak

So I guess time flies sometimes. It is a year later since the following blog posting on my other blog. And here this blog can be repeating itself each time of the year, so much that I find I can repost the same blog entry for the same event, for the same holiday, a year later: If you are weak for fashion than this may be the time of year for you. Fashion week must be coming up sometime soon because all of the newspapers are starting to show those familiar photos of models walking down the runways wearing clothes that say what the latest styles and trends for the upcoming fall, summer, spring, winter or any other season of the day or year it is will be. And what is there to say about fashion except go out and buy more clothes if you want to be stylish and trendy in New York because I am not sure if someone in nowhere ville, no town is as fashion conscious as New Yorkers can be. I myself can only afford to keep up with the latest trends that are to be at the local thrift store and wearing a sheet or a potato sack is good enough for me as a fashion statement. If only every day were Halloween in this town because then I could wear anything and it wouldn’t matter because it’s Halloween, a day to be free to be whoever one wants to invent oneself as. Happy fashion weak.

Surfs Up

Surfs Up! What does that phrase mean. I hear someone saying that word every so often. I think it is a surfer term for when the water is surfable and one can’t wait to go to the beach to surf and swim the day away. I imagine one usually says that phrase a lot in warmer climates. Maybe that term has something do with high or low tide or something. And what about all of those other water sports, swimming, wakeboarding. Wakeboarding? What is wakeboarding. Is that surfing the wakes of the waves, and how does one do that? If you are one of those people who live in the water or who enjoy water sports or skateboarding and the like, SurfExpo.com is an extensive website with tons of information for all things surfing and more. Just about anything surfing and related to surfing that one can think of can be found on their website. Even fashion wear, fashion events, slide shows and videos can be found on their site. The Surf Expo website features a photo gallery, job board, classified ads and much, much more. And there is also an upcoming show January 10-13, 2008 in Orlando, Florida with over 2,400 booths, seminars, fashion shows, demos and silent auction. Surf Expo is a great news and community web site about surfing, skateboarding, wakeboarding, fashion, apparel, and beach culture markets and is brought to you from Surf Expo, the longest running surf trade show in the world.

Fall Fashion Week

As I have written a few blog entries ago, the media and events this week in New York City say its fashion week. And there are enough fashion shows and events taking place this week to say so. And I guess the weak of fashion does have its benefits for those who are walking the runways of the sidewalks and concrete jungle. I went to Housing Works Thrift Shops and The Salvation Army Thrift Stores today and lo and behold, they were both having 50% off everything in the store specials, I mean every single thing in the store. Wow! That’s great if one is a shopaholic and doing the thrift store rounds, as I saw several other people going from one store to the other as I were. And the items were flying off the shelves with testimonies like “I got this fabulous table for one dollar!” and “They were just giving away everything for five dollars because they wanted to clear the floor for their fashion show!” The Housing Works Auction Special September 4-18th that is. Happy fashion weak.
