A Film Festival

Gee, I turn on the news on this day and it says that there was an earthquake in the midwest felt as far away as several surrounding states from which it was centered. And this seems to be considered as earth day nears, the effects of mother nature and its fury, or its natural changes of itself. And I am always scared of those natural disasters of planet mother earth with humanity on its surface. And in other thoughts, the entertainment headlines say that the Tribeca Film Festival is in town April 23 through May 4. The lower Manhattan event celebrating independent film. And here is a partial list of some of those film selections that will be shown as part of it, as this event seems as if it can be the end all to be all in the independent film world. Nublu Nite

Hey Bloggers, this is actually one of those postings that I was hoping could be a blog your way to riches, get rich internet quick post. But for some reason it isn’t. So instead I find myself blah blogging yesterdays posting that I posted on my other blog:
Okay, so somehow I wound up at that club Nublu last night in the East Village to see my friend Welf Dorr’s band “Funk Monk” play after a night of going to some art opening with all of the free wine and cheese you can eat. And Nublu is this really cool artist collective like club that Ilhan Ersahin started sometime from back in the day with artists who perform there like Brazilian Girls, a band for which the club seems to be mostly known for these days, Forro In The Dark, Kino, Kudu, Kenny Wollesen, Butch Morris and the Nublu Orchestra, Wax Poetic, Real Live Show, John Farris, Karina, Love Trio and a host of others. And they always have these really kool dj’s that play there also And that club that seems to be all the rage these days on the nightlife scene, seems like this hip scene thats never been seen before. And so my friends band gave me yet another good reason to drag the camera, whose main purpose seems to be to collect dust these days, out of the closet. And so I couldn’t wait to play with the camera again. This blog entry was supposed to have a photo of them playing posted in it also but that didn’t happen for some reason, because one thing I figured out in my experiment as a wannabe cameraman is to never attempt to use a camera after a night of free wine and cheese. And so the following is the YouTube video of my friends band on my YouTube page. This one seems to be sort of a cliffhanger video with an abrupt, frustrating ending to me. And the sound of that electronica synthesizer saxophone, and this evolution of the web 2.0 social media user driven content technology thing rocks. Have a great music day.

Till’s Gig

I’ve been meaning to blah blog about Till’s gig lately for quite some time now. He’s been sending out those email invites for his latest gig for a while. And he’s been calling those events “Eazy” or “Eazy does it”. Till plays some good music, mostly jazz, as I have always known him as a sax man though now it seems as if he is playing, how does he describe it on his MySpace page; Psychedelic / Electronica / Trip Hop. And this time around he seems to be calling himself Senor Bonobo. I am not exactly sure what that name is all about, maybe it has something to do with me calling myself No Police State Girl sometimes, who knows. There seems to be photos of apes all over his page and I guess that’s what a Bonobo is. And he describes Senor Bonobo as something like “Bonobos are supposed to live a more peaceful lifestyle in part because of their habitat, which has more nutritional vegetation, allowing less hunting, less competition, and a social outlet of eating. Bonobos, at least in captivity, are generally held to have superior intelligence to Common Chimpanzees and so on and so on and so on…” I made it to one of his parties and it was at this really cool loft in Queens with this view of Manhattan that was awesome. Till B’s music rocks and his event for this week is as follows. Have a great rock n’ roll day.

The CMJ Music Marathon Rocks

And while I am on the topic of music, according to lots of newspaper listings, The CMJ Music Marathon and Film Festival is happening this week October 16-20th. And that also leads me to wonder, what exactly does the letters CMJ stand for? C Music something J. There will be music, films and panels at this event. It seems to be all rock, indie rock, all the time and more. There will be music, music and more music and bands, bands and more bands performing in venues around the New York City area such as Union Pool, Bowery Ballroom, Southpaw, Canal Room, The Delancey, The Annex, Arlene’s Grocery, The Knitting Factory, The Music Hall Of Williamsburg, Studio B, Mercury Lounge, B.B. Kings, Cake Shop, Europa, Luna Lounge, Maxwell’s, Ace of Clubs, Club Midway, Galapagos, Glasslands, Gramercy Theatre, Hammerstein Ballroom, Living Room, Pianos, Webster Hall, Avalon, Joe’s Pub, Lion’s Den, The Village Underground, The Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza and more. These places rock. If you are in the neighborhood, you may want to check out the music that is part of this festival. And a lot of those bands have some really funny, cool and interesting names that are entertainment alone. Some of the bands, organizations and groups scheduled to perform as part of the festival are:

Celebration, Brooklyn Vegan Showcase, Die Romantik, M.I.A., Wise Intelligent, Me Talk Pretty, Bella Noir, Mates of State, Oh My Rockness, Meat Puppets, Finally Punk, A Place to Bury Strangers, Palomar, The Temple of Hip-Hop, The Epochs, Phonograph, Little Brazil, The End of the World, The Cops, Elizabeth Harper, Music for Ice Cream Trucks, Spinto Band, King Of Prussia, U.S.S.R., Earl Greyhound, The Insomniacs, The Jealous Girlfriends, Kudu, Roxy Cottontail, O’Death, Band of Horses, Sex With An Angel, Burnt Sugar, Devils, Chop Shop, Gold Streets, Hollywood Holt, Dirty on Purpose, Matt and Kim, Harlem Shakes, Flosstradamus, Slaves to Gravity, The Panderers, Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping, The Cool Kids, Catfish Haven and a ton of others. Nublu Rocks

And so I went to go see my friends band, Funk Monk, play at Nublu last night. Nublu is this really cool club in the East Village where Brazilian Girls, Kudu, Forro in the Dark, Love Trio, Wax Poetics, Nublu Orchestra conducted by Butch Morris, The Real Live Show, ElodieO, Karina and a host of other bands and musicians have played at. They are an artists collective. And it seems as if I have been going to this place every so often over the years to listen to their music. And this excursion to listen to my friends band presented yet another great opportunity for me to get my camera out of the closet and play with it once again, as it seems as if the only purpose that it serves these days is to collect dust. And I set the alarm clock to stay awake for when they started playing, as club hour in this town seems to start at midnight, when most people are going to sleep, I think. And so I took photos and videos of the band in my latest experiment with this camera. One can see by the photo above and by the Funk Monk at NUBLU Video on my YouTube page, that these are the results. And Welf’s really cool electric synthesizer sounds on his horn rocked that night. Nublu Rocks. Long Live The Lower East Side.

East Village Pharmacy

Hey Bloggers. East Village Pharmacy is this really cool band, not a pharmacy I think. I’ve been watching them play around town for a while now. They got this cool song “Beginning Again” that I could not get out of my mind that just kept playing over and over and over for days and days and days, the lyrics of that song. And they got some cool videos that they post on YouTube also. The following is one of them, and those cartoons that they have been making for their videos rock. If you happen to be in the area, they will be playing at Lava Gina in the East Village, October 4th at 9pm.
