And being that I find myself on that topics of events again as in the previous post, here is another one of those events in New York City posts again. And somehow I found myself coming across one of those art event advertisement announcement flyers the other day,as I guess these type of flyers abound just about everywhere in this that town. And this flyer was for 1st Thursday, Dumbo Gallery Walk, 5:30-8:30 every first Thursday of the month. And this event seems like one of those Dumbo neighborhood in Brooklyn kind of events. And there are monthly special features such as artist talks, book signings, printmaking demonstrations and live music. And some of the participating galleries are Aswoon Gallery, Gallery QB, Melville House, VII Dumbo, Pochron Studios, Powerhouse Arena, Smack Mellon, Dumbo Arts Center, Rabbithole Studio, 5 plus 5, Brooklyn Arts Council, Byrd Hoffman Watermill Fdn., Farmani Gallery, Gloria Kennedy Gallery, Henry Gregg Gallery, Klompching Gallery, Nelson Hancock Gallery, Robert Wilson/RW Work, Safe T Gallery, Tivoli, Umbrage Gallery, Wessel plus O’Connor Fine Art, Spring and more. And this event art rocks.

Witches Evening

Hey Bloggers, it’s finally zombie day today is here. Boo! Horror, horror, abracadabra, trick or treat, the ghosts have come to town and the dead have risen, maybe, the pagans are out, the witches are here, the devils are here, the jack o lanterns are here, curses could abound. Ghouls, crows, vultures, black cats, spiders, goblins, zombies, mummies, skeletons, and demons are around. It’s ritual celebration of something time. And that’s such a cool photo of that devil and his pentacle above that I thought to post it in this entry for Halloween, All Hallows Eve, All Hallows Day, Day of the Dead, All Saints Eve, Night of the Witches or whatever you may want to call this what could be the coolest day of the year when everyone could be free to be who they want to be, maybe. If only every day could be Halloween. And that nonsense nyc event list, that list that is all events in New York City all the time sent out yet another event mail list for this week. And there are so many parties listed on this day for Halloween events that I thought to just repost them All.:

Halloween Critical Mass
Critical Mass, an international event held in more than 325 cities on six continents, occurs on the last Friday of every month when bicyclists spontaneously come together to ride the ordinarily car-clogged streets of their cities. Critical Mass focuses on the rights of bicyclists and the rights of pedestrians on their own streets. It also brings attention to the deteriorating quality of life — starting with the toxic levels of air and noise pollution — that cars create for cities. Critical Mass’s aim is to make people take notice of cyclists as road users. Although some obstruction of normal traffic occurs, we are only seeking to raise the profile of cycling, and put cycling and transport issues on the agenda so that they will not be ignored.
This is usually a costume ride. Followed by a Halloween party ride at 8:40p on the Brooklyn side of the Williamsburg Bridge Bike Path.

Nonsense NYC
Hey Bloggers, and it’s events time again. And usually it’s events time again because hey, it’s less writing sometimes when I am trying to figure out what to blah blog about in my blogaholicness on this blog. And I received another one of those Jeff Stark nonsense nyc emails the other day, this really cool event list that seems to be all events in that City of New York all the time. And so one of their weekly events that they have listed for this week seems really cool if you happen to be in the neighborhood, is that:

And this event rocks. Have a great art and music day.![]()
An Art Opening

And today is that Sunday day time of the week again, that day of the sun, sabbath day of rest, or is that Saturday? And yet I find myself blah blogging away on this blog for some reason. And so someone actually did send me a few photos of that art event I found myself blogging about just yesterday on this blog. And that person was a guy named Ves who sent me those photos from above, as this art event was one of those times that I did not find myself dragging that camera out of the closet, whose only purpose seems to be to collect dust these days. And those photos above are from Leo’s Art Opening the other night in Dumbo, that neighborhood in Brooklyn in that City of New York where every other person seems as if they are an artist of some sort. And those photos above are of these two people dressed up in their art installation which seemed to be themselves, sitting on I guess Leo’s bed. And they were a colorful art installation indeed. And that art event was from the Leo Kuelbs Collection, titled “Space Within Space”, New Sculpture and Installations at “dumbo art under the bridge festival”, Opening Party with work by ON megumi Akiyoshi, OLEK, Thomas Lendvai, Christy Singleton, Adriana Varella, Nilton Maltz, Andrew Eustler and Chris Herbeck. And his art events rock and are usually a great excuse for me to go see cool artwork. Have a great art day.![]()
The Deli Magazine
The The Deli Magazine will have an All Day Deli Show during the Dumbo Art Under The Bridge Festival this weekend. I know because their email that they sent says so. And I have been an avid reader every so often of that Deli Magazine and its indie rock, folk scene and more when it comes to being all music all the time. You can read their NYC Top 20 with bands like Vampire Weekend, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, The Strokes, Brazilian Girls, LCD Soundsystem, Animal Collective, Interpol, The National, We Are Scientists and more. And then you can read about that CMJ 08 Music Marathon and Film Festival that is coming up in October with performances by Broken Social Scene, Deerhoof, Talib Kweli, Kid Sister and hundreds more. And that Deli Magazine usually writes about the coolest bands that play at the coolest places around that City of New York like Cake Shop, Crash Mansion, Knitting Factory, Lit Lounge, Niagara Bar, Sputnik, Union Hall, Annex, Goodbye Blue Monday, Trash Bar, Pete’s Candy Store, Bowery Ballroom, Bowery Poetry Club, Mercury Lounge, Rehab, Stain, Sidewalk Cafe, Union Pool, Arlene’s Grocery, The Shrine, Rockwood Music Hall and just about every other place to be found in New York City where there’s music to be heard. And they have just about what seems like over a zillion of every hand picked artist listed on their website from indie rock, post rock, experimental, loud rock, folk songwriters, mellow indie, lo fi, indie pop, psych rock, electronic, and almost any other music category one can think of. And so that email that Paolo sent on this day reads something like as follows:
Guys, We are having a free Deli show/party on Saturday in Dumbo, during the Art Under the Bridge Festival. There will be something like 21 artists playing from 2pm until night, paintings hanging on the walls and videos at Water Street Lounge that is a yearly event organized by the Dumbo Arts Center, lasting from 7pm on Friday 09.26 through Sunday 09.28. Over the festival weekend, art will be happening everywhere in Dumbo on the streets, sidewalks, storefronts, elevators, lobbies, the water, the waterfront, parks, nooks, crannies, delis, NY Water Taxi, and more. Along with the 65 plus new public art projects, over 100 local artists will open their studios to the public, and downstairs at the Water Street Lounge. On Saturday The Deli and SESAC will showcase 20 plus musical artists and 8 visual artists. Here’s the lineup: Clueless, Mascott, Craig Chin, Kagero, Jessica L Fenton, Lester Von Buween, Maia MacDonald, Pontus Gunve, The City Lights, Myles Turney, The Meanwhiles, Creaky Boards, Alice, Kelly Rae Powell, April Smith, Fresh Air Kids, The Feverfew, Tonearm, 55 Diet Kong,Object, Comandante Zero and Aderbat.
The Weekend
Hey Bloggers, and it’s that weekend time again. I know because Friday is usually the end of the week as far as I know. And when that weekend makes its way around again, I sometimes find myself wondering what to do on the weekend as far as events go it that City of New York. And there is always that nonsense nyc event list from Jeff Stark that I have somehow found myself subscribing to. And that is a really cool list with lots of cool things to do each day of the week as far as events go. And I find myself posting events on this blog every so often because hey, it’s less writing sometimes. And one of those events that they have listed on their calendar for this week is as follows:
SEPTEMBER 21
Democracy in America Convergence Center
After traveling across the country to glean perspectives from artists and activists on the state of democracy, Creative Time’s year-long program Democracy in America: The National Campaign culminates in the Convergence Center: a major exhibition, participatory project space, and meeting hall mounted in New York City’s Park Avenue Armory just in time for election season. The Convergence Center at Park Avenue Armory will provide an activated space to both reflect on and perform democracy and will be punctuated by speeches by artists, community leaders, and cultural critics throughout the week. As one of the largest unobstructed spaces in New York, the non-traditional setting of the Armory features interiors—such as its vast drill hall and historic period rooms—that are ideal for artists presenting multifaceted visual and performing arts productions.
Artists include: Erick Beltrán, Center for Tactical Magic, Critical Art Ensemble, Annabel Daou, dB Foundation, Hasan Elahi, Feel Tank, Luca Frei, Chitra Ganesh and Mariam Ghani, Group Material, John Hawke, Sharon Hayes, Kenneth Tin-Kin Hung, Incubate, Magdalena Jitrik, Matt Keegan, Jon Kessler, Olga Koumoundouros and Rodney McMillian, Steve Lambert, Ligorano/Reese, Pia Lindman, Rachel Mason, Carlos Motta, Angel Nevarez and Valerie Tevere, Trevor Paglen, Cornelia Parker, Jenny Polak, Steve Powers, Greta Pratt, Paul Ramírez Jonas, Red76, Duke Riley, Martha Rosler, Dread Scott, Allison Smith, Chris Sollars, Chris Stain, Mark Tribe, United Victorian Workers, Chu Yun, and more.
Speeches and performances by the Yes Men, Reverend Billy, Karen Finley, Steve Kurtz (of Critical Art Ensemble), Rachel Mason, Trever Paglen, Pia Lindman, Tanya Fields (of Sustainable South Bronx), Matthew Diaz (who released the names and serial numbers of Guantanamo detainees to the Center of Constitutional Rights), Camilo Mejía (an Iraq War veteran and major spokesman against the war), Brian Holmes, representatives from Working Artists and the Greater Economy, and others.
Have a great event day
The Sustainability Project
And for some reason this blog seems as if it wants to be about events lately, because hey, it’s less writing sometimes, maybe. And on this day is that sabbath day of rest or is that Saturday? And I find myself blogging about events again. And somehow I wound up in that Lower East Side Loisada neighborhood that now seems to be called The East Village for real estate marketing purposes maybe, and found my way to that Howl Festival that is taking place today in Tompkins Square park. And then there was that cornfield dance that was taking place today at the 6th Street and Avenue B Community Garden today also, whose event is in those photos above that I attempted to take from my vantage point. And that event was a dance installation for The Sustainability Project, keep us in the green. Their dancers, artists and musicians were Ellen Cornfield, Hope Davis, Lindsay Fisher, Jonathan Fredrickson, Megan Krauszer, Ellie Kusner, Ryan Mason, Caitlin Scranton, Emily Stone, Welf, Brahim Fribgane and Andreas Brade. And the Sustainability project is a series of performances by cornfield dance to be presented in a variety of alternative spaces throughout New York City. And if you have ideas for places to perform in the city. let them know. And as their name my imply, go green, it’s the new thing. Help save planet mother earth. News And Events
And as I find myself reading headlines of the day with titles such as “India nabs boy, 14, in iPod slay, Police look to screen every vehicle in New York for terrorism, In 1976 Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ron Wayne design and began selling the Apple 1 computer at a price of $666.66, Mosquito’s are responsible for more deaths annually than all other animals and human wars combined, Long Island teens apparently inspired by the violent video game “Grand Theft Auto” went on a robbery and crime spree, A Brooklyn church is buying guns off the street for $200 cash, no questions asked” and other interesting headlines too inumerous and horrendous to mention, I am still finding myself wondering what events are going on this weekend, even in the midst of what seems like the last days and the beginning of the end of society and the world and its morals when one reads the news. And so I thought to post some events because, hey, it’s less writing sometimes.
And some good friends “Dubtronics” are playing some ambient electronica tonight at the Stain Bar in Williamsburg, Brooklyn if you happen to be in the neighborhood. And that Charlie Parker Jazz Festival seems to be happening this weekend as well at Marcus Garvey Park and Tompkins Square Park with artists such as the Barry Harris Trio, Charles McPherson, Vanessa Rubin, Rashied Ali, Robert Glasper, Randy Weston, Jerry Gonzalez and Fort Apache , Eric Lewis, Gretchen Parlato and more. And that New York Fringe Festival 2008 has been going on this past week as well with so many performances and show listings that it can take a while to see them all. And I imagine there must be an infinity more of events happening this weekend, and they are passing me by at the moment. Have a great event day.![]()
A Squatting Forum

And maybe it could be possible to free the world and squat the land. I know because when I just signed into my MySpace there was one of those inbox messages with a title that read “Tomorrow, 8/7: Squatting Forum @ 123”. And I gather by that title, that there is a forum and discussion about Squatting, an ideal that’s been long gone, lost and forgotten as the last remaining Squats of New York’s Lower East Side, that is now called the East Village for real estate marketing purposes have been bought off or sold off. And it is an era on gentrification and genocide, so much that even the yuppies, or young urban professionals can no longer afford the rent without ten roomates or twenty full time jobs. And that internet bible dictionary Wikipedia seems to have an entry for this alternative type of housing. And whose idea is it that the land is for sale anyway. And New York seems to be an ever changing era and landscape in its real estate. And the text of that event invite read:
“Join Freegan.info for a forum on squatting and reappropriation of the conditions of homelessness. The dispossessed are denied their rights to food and shelter by a system that recycles suffering and servitude. It is time to take advantage of the conditions of neglect by resettling abandoned buildings to forge the consensual space of extra-political collectives. The talk will be about squatting, and the formation of networked collectives to engage in the nuts and bolds of every-day class struggle. The spaces of every-day life need to be revolutionized for autonomy, self-determination, and freedom! Admission and Food Free.

And the squatters are, were your neighbors. Long Live The Lower East Side. And what does this have to do with a No Police State?![]()
