BOOM Collective and Search and Restore are pleased to announce the lineup for 2013 NYC WINTER JAZZFEST.  The festival is to be held on January 11th & 12th, 2013 in New York City.  On both nights the festival will take over six venues in the Village, Le Poisson Rouge, Sullivan Hall, Zinc Bar, Bitter End, SubCulture and Bowery Electric.  This marks the ninth year of the annual NYC WINTER JAZZFEST, and the continued mission to showcase top quality jazz to industry professionals, avid jazz fans, and new audiences.

The 2013 NYC WINTER JAZZFEST will feature over 70 different jazz groups during the Arts Presenters (APAP) conference.  Similar to past years the festival will provide an opportunity for artists to showcase in front of presenters, promoters, talent buyers, educators, musicians and avid fans. Over 5000 arts professionals will be in New York City for the annual Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) conference from January 10-14.  As there will be hundreds of showcases scheduled throughout the weekend around the city both at the Hilton Hotel and in alternative venues, Winter Jazzfest offers APAP conference attendees, and the general public, the opportunity to experience the best of today’s new live jazz and experimental music in club venue settings.  Once famed as the focal point of New York City’s rich jazz and live music scene, Bleecker Street and the Village provide for an ideal festival experience groups performing all night at six of the neighborhood’s esteemed venues within close proximity of each other.  On this night the 2013 NYC WINTER JAZZFEST will continue to redeem the rich jazz heritage of the Village and again will bring jazz fans back to Bleecker Street.  The 2013 NYC WINTER JAZZFEST includes over 70 of today’s most interesting jazz groups from New York, Brooklyn, and beyond.

Currently new jazz groups are underrepresented, yet they are culturally essential to the continued development and future of jazz and the cultivation of new audiences for jazz.  Jazz artists need support and exposure to the significant institutional booking forum that the Arts Presenters conference represents.  Winter Jazzfest is pleased to offer a forum for presenters and music enthusiasts to experience and support the future of jazz.

The 2013 NYC WINTER JAZZFEST features curatorial input from Meghan Stabile of Revive Music Group and Adam Schatz of Search & Restore.  In line with the mission of Winter Jazzfest, Stabile and Schatz continue to invigorate NYC’s jazz scenes in their own ways by promoting and supporting young and deserving new jazz artists while bringing increasingly growing audiences to the music.

Search & Restore provides a point of discovery for the new jazz & improvised music community atwww.searchandrestore.com.  Founded in late 2007 by Adam Schatz, S+R has since grown into a 501©3 non-profit organization, committed to bringing the artists and audiences of new jazz and improvised music together in new ways, while never forgetting it’s DIY roots.

Revive Music Group is a musician advocacy firm and boutique creative music agency that offers pioneering live music productions and online exposure for musicians. Revive represents musicians through artist development and global awareness, while educating and exposing younger audiences to jazz in nontraditional ways.  Visit the online hub dedicated to musicians at http://revivalist.okayplayer.com

A New Year

And as I look up and around on this day it finds itself as another year that has rolled around again according to that Gregorian calendar on the wall. It is a new year of 2013 from 2012 that seemingly Mayan calendar end of the world year. And we’re still here. And it is also another one of those end of the year review retrospective of a year years again. A year of births, deaths, marriages, traveling, celebrations, happiness and sorrows or what not. And time is passing by again. And it is also a Twilight Zone 24 hour marathon cancel all appointments on this New Years Day again. And so I find myself posting this quote that I came across throughout my travels in internetland on this day.

We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day. Edith Lovejoy Pierce

A Minivan Minimansion Tour

ditto..and these photos below, well they were added a few days later when the camera battery worked again

And so I found myself on another one of those tours with a friend on this day in search of that mega mini mansion of a neighborhood with one of those New York New Jersey minivans to get me there as one of those tourists in the state of New Jersey with The Palisades cliffs and that skyline of Manhattan to be found in that State of New York as its backdrop. And this one was one of those planned tours via the internet with enough reason to drag that camera out of the closet again with enough battery to get a whole ten photos out of it before the camera batteries died again. And so those photos that I found myself taking in my blogaholicness find themselves as posted above. Happy holy dayze.

The Headline News Again

Hey again bloggers or whoever could be reading this blog. And on this day finds itself as Occupy Wall Street Day 461.  And Occupy Wall Street and Occupy Together, those global revolution of a movements, are still moving fast. And it also finds itself a day before that Mayan Calendar End Of The World Countdown thing, and a few days after that unfortunate Connecticut School Shooting that has since ignited the issue of gun control and gun violence and has spawned online groups such as Occupy The NRA. And so I find myself attempting to find something to blog about on this day in an attempt to maintain content for this blog and my other blog whenever blaghers block possible and also when that Google page rank update wants to send me in search of a fifth full time job. And so I find myself pulling out this vanilla folder stuffed with torn out newspaper clippings of headlines from months and I think even years ago that I once thought that I would blog about on this blog that never happened. And so I attempt to I guess mini blog those headline news clippings without commentary as if to rewind headline news time with headlines that read something like as follows in an attempt to just put this stack of news clippings away again:

1.  College students targeted in online music piracy crackdown.
2.  Take Out the Plastic and Kill it.
3.  National Guard will help protect PATH. hugh????
4.  Workers blast city’s Big Brother scheme….Something about an electronic payroll system.
5.  1 in 100 adults behind bars in U.S. prison population.
6.  Outsider Art Fair.
7.  E-waste wave heads for city….Something about televisions switching from analog to digital.
8.  Back to school.  Still coping, many Virginia Tech students return to campus.
9.  A Warning to the World.  Frogs in Danger.
10.  Van kills 2 kids in Chinatown…..  Can someone change the laws in New York City to where pedestrians and cyclists are not treated as disposable roadkill when an automobile kills them and drivers are not penalized or even given a parking ticket.
11.  Gov urges gun ban for violent mental patients…..How about urging a gun ban for every human being on planet earth.
12.  Bored? Tired of going to the same old places.  Try This! Rent a .22 Caliber Rifle…Safety Lessons Included. Such and such Rifle and Pistol Range located in New York City with an ad in a local New York City newspaper…. hugh??? can someone please banish all of these gun stores located in North America.
13.  flavor of the week. Slim to None. Such and such gets a divorce and a veggie burger-all for less than $40.
14.  Big Bang re-created.
15.  Post-election Iran divided.
16.  Clinton Hill.  Fight for convent’s site.
17.  Columbia debates old ROTC ban…..ROTC sucks, to be trained for war in schools.
18.  Police give out stop and frisk cards….Can someone do away with this stop and harass thing.
19.  Reality Bikes.  The masses take it to the streets for the Fourth Annual Memorial Ride and Walk.

26.  The Bag Lady of Billburg:  Eighty percent of the bottles clogging our streets are for water.  Stop drinking bottled water.
27.  Whiting Out the Ads, but at What Cost?  The developer of Adblock Plus estimates that it has about 2.5 million users.

31.  For Love of Water…Something about the whole idea of paying for water.
32.  A Month Without Shopping.  Or How I Learned to Start Worrying and Hate Credit Cards.
33.  Nothing to Fear But Fear Itself?  Of Bears, Bees and Deadly Mosquitoes.
34.  Planes, Trains or Automobiles?  Transportation Alternatives in the Face of Peak Oil.
35.  The Planet is Saved!  Well, Not Really.  5 Things We Learned This Year….And 5 More for ’08.
36.  Reconditioning.  Air conditioning contributes to global warming through both energy consumption and the inevitable release of refrigerants.
37.  A Lifetime of Misery. Animal Circuses:  Are they really worth it? The Greatest Show on Earth?  Think again…. the circus you are supporting severely abuses their animals.  Such and such a circus is hell on earth for the animals.
38.  For what reason are all of those ads in the back of weekly newspapers for pharmaceutical companies?  Psychiatry Kills.
39.   For what reason does Penn Station and Port Authority Bus Terminal seem like a war zone with polizei in camouflage with dogs and machine guns as if awaiting world war four and one is supposed to pretend that they cannot get killed by some guy standing next to them with a machine gun. Guns are the worst invention ever.  If only guns could be banished from every human being on planet earth.

12/12/12

Hey again bloggers or whoever could be reading this blagh. And in case you haven’t heard, today on planet earth finds itself of that date December 12th, 2012 or 12.12.12 according to that Gregorian calendar on the wall, the last repetitive date we’ll see in our lifetimes, or according to those doomsday sayers, 12/12/12, the last date before the end of the world 12.21.2012 Mayan calendar date, or something like that. And so what else is there that I can say about this date that has not already been said in 12 12 12 time. Well, CNN finds itself posting articles with headlines that read Once-in-a-lifetime 12/12/12 date spawns mass weddings, superstitions and RT finds itself with articles that read something like 12/12/12: Twelve must-know facts about last once-in-a-lifetime date this century with a text that reads something like as follows. Have a great 12.12.2012 day.

–––
12/12/12 –– the day of Harmony … or Doom?
–––

Twelve facts about the last, once-in-a-lifetime date, this century …

1. Wedding bells will be ringing in Hong Kong and Singapore, where couples are keen to tie the knot on a day which they say symbolizes love. But it’s not just Asia which will see an increase in love birds heading to the altar. A survey conducted by US-based David’s Bridal estimates that around 7,500 brides will be getting hitched in America – a 1,446 per cent increase from the less significant 12/12/11. The surge comes as no surprise, considering the sharp increases in marriages which took place on 11/11/11 and 10/10/10.

2. For some, the day will be anything but joyful. Many doomsdayers believe 12/12/12 will be the end of the world, thanks to an interpretation of the Mayan calendar. But, most of the end-of-the-world believers are convinced that the actual doomsday is on 12/21/12, when the Mayan calendar is set to end.

3. In response to “end of the world” preparations taking place across the globe, the Astronomical Society of the Pacific has declared 12/12/12 “Anti-Doomsday Day,” in celebration of rational thinking and reasoned discourse.

4. Palindrome lovers will rejoice in the fact that at 1:21:02 am, they can celebrate the second which marks a date-time combination which will be read the same both backwards and forwards. 2012-12-12 1:21:02 = 201212-1-212102.

5. Those who wish to take part in yet another time-based phenomenon but find themselves snoring away at 1:21:02 will be given a second chance. At 12:12:12 pm, the number 12 will be given a “sixer” – 12/12/12 12:12:12.

6. Number crunchers have a profound respect for the number 12, mainly because of its divisibility capabilities. After all, it can divided into halves, thirds, fourths, sixths, and twelfths. So it can only be assumed that mathematicians will find 12/12/12 to be three times more exciting than a normal “12” day.

7. According to Chinese numerology, the number one is a yang number which is ruled by the sun and represents independence and individualism. Two is a yin number which is ruled by the moon and represents symmetry and balance. When placed together, the number 12 brings harmony to the yin and yang, balancing the feminine energy of the moon with the masculine energy of the sun. So, what we can gather is that 12/12/12 equals lots of harmony.

8. Three is generally considered a heavenly number and often represents the soul or godhead. Four is the number of earth and mankind – for example, there are four elements (earth, air, fire, and water) and four cardinal directions (north, south, east, and west). Because of this, the product of the two numbers, 12, has been said to encompass both the secular and the sacred. So 12/12/12 should mean that both sides will be represented more than usual.

9. December 12, 2012 is exactly 6 years, 6 months, 6 days from June 6, 2006, or 06/06/06.

10. From culinary cuisine to calendars, 12 has been a significant number since its creation. Just think about it – 12 months in the year, 12 hours of night and day, 12 astrological signs, 12 Olympic gods and goddesses, 12 days of Christmas, and Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. Oh, and let’s not forget about eggs – which are cheaper by the dozen! With so much significance on its side, 12/12/12 was seemingly destined to be a meaningful day.

11. Kiam Moriya of Birmingham, Alabama will turn 12 at 12:12pm on 12/12/12. Since approximately 267 babies are born every minute, many other people will share the same moment – in their respective timezones, of course!

12. Students at Moscow State University have been given motivation to study after their professor posted a sign on his door stating, “The last chance to retake your History of Foreign Literature exam will be 12/12/12. If you choose not to take it, it will not only be the end of the world…but also the end of you.”

A Mill Creek Marsh Trip

Well that was pretty neat to find myself on one of those unexpected ten minute day trips to Mill Creek Marsh today after running into a friend at the supermarket with one of those cars that she could drive to this infamous dumping ground oasis that finds itself in the middle of Secaucus, New Jersey Meadowlands. And that place was like a trip to the country in the middle of the city with the skyline of Manhattan as its background and the smell of sulphur around it that comes from somewhere. And it was a great excuse to grab that camera out of the closet to get a whole five photos out of it before the camera batteries died to post those photos that find themselves posted above. And seeing those white cedar stumps in the swamp in person that I have read about on the internet, on that one and a half mile Mill Creek Marsh nature trail was nature trail interesting. And where does that sulphur smell that finds itself around this Mill Creek Marsh come from. And this marsh still bears witness to the aftermath of hurricane Sandy with its multitude of trees that have fallen and lay on the ground. Oh, and then there’s Hoffa. Where are you.

Squat or Rot

Squat or rot. Squat the world. The Squatters are your neighbors. Housing is a human right. And all of those other slogans and sayings that used to go with that squatter movement of the Lower East Side, now called the East Village for real estate marketing purposes in New York City, maybe. And so now that Tompkins Square Park everywhere movement could now be thought of as homestead or rot in the age of gentrification and the Disneylandification of a neighborhood. And so I came across this Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space Facebook event invite throughout my travels in internetland on this day for their opening party at their space. And that Facebook event invite and their website reads something like as follows:
